Searching for Inspiration

Its been a very slow month for me. With November drawing near, and another NaNoWriMo on the way, I wanted to be prepared this year and finish last year’s story way ahead of time. But it just isn’t working. All I do is stare at the computer screen and maybe if I’m lucky, I’ll type a few sentences in. It’s very frustrating, wanting to write yet not being able to because I don’t know what to write.

I know some writers outline their whole stories before they even begin the writing process, but I can’t do that. Half of the fun of writing for me is seeing what comes out as I sit there and write. I tried to outline before, but I learned that if I discover the whole story in an outline, then I have no desire to flesh it out. Right now, I have general ideas of how I want a story to go, but they’re not set in concrete. Most of the time, I’ll try and move towards that idea and end up in a totally new direction because something else came along that worked out better. None of my stories are really planned out ahead of time, which is how I work best, but it always drives me nuts when I get stuck and I can’t figure out what to do next.

Usually I’ll go thru a day and see things that will inspire me. It could be a commercial, a picture, or some times even just a name. But lately, when I get that spark, it just fizzles out. I jot down notes from that sudden burst of inspiration but nothing comes of it. So until I find muse once more, I’ll just keep plodding along, sentence by strained sentence.

On a happier note, I got to play around with my Canon FD 50mm Macro lens and got some pretty nice pictures out it. I haven’t had much time for photography lately since its been rainy and stormy recently, but I hope to get out more as summer draws nearer. So be prepared for more photography posts. Also, I added a couple more chapters to my Shattered page for anyone interested.
