I decided to go with something new for NaNoWriMo this year. Something a little lighter, not so dark, and hopefully funnier. I’ve been trying to change my writing style for a while now and decided to give it a go. And what better time than during NaNoWriMo, when I won’t have time to overthink about everything I put down on the page and instead just concentrate on writing.
Right now I’m trying to figure out the backgrounds for my characters and the world they live in. I have general ideas for the characters and I don’t usually do too much flushing out since I enjoy discovering who they are as I write, so I’m just getting the basics down, like physical appearances, jobs and roles in the story.
Now I just have to wait 23 more days before I can start writing. I want to try and post what I’m writing as I go, but we’ll see how well that works. But until then, here’s the cover I used for my NaNoWriMo novel. I designed a couple more but decided to go with this one since she looks sort of like the character I had in mind.
Meet Savannah Grey, part-time necromancer and full-time baker. For the last eight years she has denied who and what she really is, now that time has come to an end. The gates to the Underworld have shattered and creatures they had caged behind them are now roaming free. Now it’s up to Savannah to save her world. Again.
